First Alberta, then Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and Manitoba are all talking about joining the United States as a block, if they join they would each get 2 senators and some representatives. The total number of House representatives would be kept at 435 and everything would be redistricted in the United States with large states like California and New York losing House seats. Saskatchewan will likely get 2 representatives, Alberta 8 representatives, British Columbia 12 representatives, and Manitoba 2 representatives. Only Edmonton in Alberta and half of British Columbia are liberal, with all the rest being conservative, so I expect 2 representatives from Alberta and 6 representatives from BC to be liberal along with 1 Senator from BC, with the other 16 Representatives and 7 Senators being conservative, a net gain of 8 in the House and 6 in the Senate for conservatives that will caucus with the Republicans. In 1832 US Army Surgeon John Emerson bought the slave Dred Scott from Peter Blow to be his manservant, then traveled into a free state and then free territories for years. He bought a wife for Dred then Emerson died in Iowa Territory in 1843 and Emerson’s wife Irene inherited Scott and his wife Harriet. After trying to purchase their freedom from Irene Emerson and failing, Irene remarried and her brother John Sanford inherited Dred and Harriet. Between 1790 and 1860 over 22,000 corporations were created by special legislative acts, and then starting in the 1840s and 1850s general incorporation laws were introduced. Between 1865 and 1900 the Robber Barons took advantage of corporations to create monopolies in steel, railroads, oil, and other areas. The basic concept of a corporation can be found in the name of an LLC, which stands for a Limited Liability Corporation.      The most basic example of why corporations exist is to limit the liability of a rich person that wants to build a bridge. In the past, worker safety laws were quite lacking, and it was not uncommon for workers to die while building a bridge.
