Elon Musk Billionaire With A Conscience

     Elon Musk is a billionaire with a conscience, which in the history of the world is a very rare thing. The only reason Elon Musk started pushing full self-driving or self-driving vehicles at all is because someone killed someone else that was riding a bicycle while they were driving a Tesla, and Elon Musk took that personally, and decided that he would try to prevent that from ever happening again. Thus we have full self-driving cars coming in the near future, apparently the only thing stopping it is individual states and countries have not approved it. We own a new Kia and as long as you put your hand on the wheel it will self-drive: it steers, it breaks, it accelerates. We've had cruise control for years but with the cameras all around the vehicle the car will now steer itself most of the time, which helps on long highway journeys. But no matter if you have a Kia or a Tesla, you still have to keep your hand on the wheel, which means we do not have full self-driving yet.

     On January 2nd 2023 someone drove a Tesla off a cliff on Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1) in California, just south of San Francisco on a notorious stretch of highway called Devil's Slide. A witness that had just passed the vehicle said that the driver was going way too fast for the road and saw them drive straight off the cliff in her rear view mirror. They plunged 250 ft down the cliff and by the time they ended up on the boulders near the water's edge the car appeared destroyed. I used to live in Northern California and have driven this section of road many times. I am very familiar with this exact area, the best description for it is that it hugs the cliff face and has multiple hairpin turns. An hour later when first responders came they assumed that there were no survivors because the Devil's Slide is notorious for people driving off the cliff, no matter how many signs are posted, no matter what the speed limit is posted at the curves people will still drive off this cliff, but usually after they plunge 250 ft down to the rocks everyone is dead.

     The difference this time was this was a Tesla, so when the responders got to them an hour after the crash they found two children, four and seven in the backseat that at first were listed as having minor to moderate injuries, and they found two adults in the front seats that were listed as critical and were airlifted by helicopter to nearby hospitals, the children were taken by land to nearby hospitals as well. Within 12 hours of the crash the children were listed as uninjured, and the adults were listed as having non-life threatening injuries, which is absolutely astonishing for the history of Devil's Slide, the responders themselves seemed amazed that anyone had survived, because they often came to this area and usually found no survivors at the bottom of that same cliff.

     Online comments for local news stations said it was a miracle, and thanked the first responders. The first responders didn't get there for an hour. What protected the occupants of the car while they tumbled 250 ft down the cliff face and lay there for an hour on the boulders? If there is a miracle, it is the miracle of engineering under Elon Musk, the billionaire with a conscience. Former Tesla employees have said that Elon Musk requested that Teslas be able to protect their occupants from a side impact from a semi tractor-trailer truck going at highway speeds, which is what protected the occupants of the Tesla that drove off of Devil's Slide on January 2nd 2023. No other vehicle at any price point on the planet has been designed to protect the occupants as well as in a Tesla.

     By January 4th 2023 the news reported that the man will be taken from the hospital directly to jail for the attempted murder of his family, and that the mother and children have been reunited. Meaning the witness was correct, he was going too fast and drove straight off the cliff, and now we know that it was probably intentional, but the safety features of the Tesla prevented him from completing his heinous crime.
