Give Al Franken The Daily Show

Al Franken was the guest host of The Daily Show this week on Comedy Central. Trevor Noah retired late last year after driving the ratings down to only one third of a million viewers, while someone like Greg Gutfeld enjoyed a number over 3 million and others enjoyed numbers close to 2 million. Trevor Noah was deeply unfunny. I understand he hosted The Daily Show for 7 years, that just means that I didn't watch The Daily Show for 7 years, I tried at first, and then when others told me that they were watching I tried again, and after only a few minutes I had to turn it away because he thought he was funny, he thought he was woke, he thought he was African-American, when in fact he was South African and not funny, and would just laugh at his own supposed jokes.
Al Franken said he was the 9th guest host and the first white male guest host of The Daily Show this year, which has been trying out different guest hosts, each one apparently gets one week to host Monday through Thursday, and I can't claim to have watched every one of them, but I did watch a couple and wasn't impressed. But Al Franken is a different kettle of fish, he's been to Washington as a senator after starting out as a comedian and doing Saturday Night Live, so now that he's back, his gravitas and his ability to, for example, interview Senator Lindsey Graham was on a different level than any other host of The Daily Show or any other late night host. His timing was flawless, his delivery was excellent, he seemed comfortable and at home, and if we can just ignore Trevor Noah and the last eight guest hosts, it could just be a continuity going directly from John Stewart to Al Franken.
Let's all admit that the world is a better place because of the sketch where Al Franken went and joined the garbage man and yelled at cars, and the way the guy told him not to hurt his back like he was protective of him. And the interactions between Al and the reporter reporting from the future about climate change were really well-timed and funny.
I want more Al Franken, I need more Al Franken. To paraphrase Stuart Smalley, "He's good enough, he's smart enough, and doggone it, people like him." The producers of The Daily Show would be idiots if they do not offer Al Franken the position permanently, for life. I would like to see Al Franken own The Daily Show in the same way as Jon Stewart did, because he is probably the only woke Democrat late night host that I can handle watching, and I bet you that more people would tune in and that he could get the ratings up. Why? Because Al Franken is actually funny, Al Franken has said it before, but if the producers of The Daily Show offer him the position permanently, 2023 could actually be, "The Year of Al Franken."
