No Tax On Overtime Was A Ninty Billion Dollar Reverse Wealth Transfer

By Robert Korczynski

In 1913 the United States established the Federal Reserve and passed the Revenue Act to introduce Federal Income Taxes. The Federal Reserve was created as a permanent central bank, but the income tax was sold as a temporary "soak the rich" measure that would only target the top 1% of earners. The Revenue Act of 1913 originally provided $3,000 exemptions for single filers and $4,000 for married couples. Adjusted for inflation, that equates to at least $90,000 to $120,000 in tax-free income, so in reality 97% of all Americans paid zero federal income tax at first.

But when the government needed to fund World War I, it passed the War Revenue Act of 1917 which slashed exemptions for single filers to $1,000 and married couples to $2,000, dragging millions of working-class Americans into a permanent federal tax net that was never dismantled after the war, and over the years the federal government kept reducing the amount of deductions that the working class had, until most Americans were working paycheck to paycheck without even 1,000 in savings.

The Middle Class Only Ever Existed Because of Unions

It took Franklin Delano Roosevelt embracing the unions to create the middle class in America. After winning the 1932 election, FDR launched the New Deal, a massive series of federal programs, public work projects, and financial reforms designed to restore prosperity. Under his administration, federal support for organized labor surged.

The 1933 Business Plot

Old Money families of the United States, that I call the American Oligarchs, viewed FDR’s New Deal as an existential threat. In 1933, they approached Major General Smedley Butler to lead a coup of the National Guard and install him as the fascist dictator of America. They sought to mirror the methods of their European counterparts, specifically the rise of Mussolini’s Blackshirts in Italy and Hitler’s Brownshirts in Germany, by using a private army of 500,000 veterans to seize control of the government and force a regime change. Unfortunately for the American Oligarchs, they chose the wrong man.

General Smedley Butler was the most decorated military officer in U.S. history. He enlisted as a teenager by lying about his age and served in the Boxer Rebellion, the Spanish-American War, the Philippines, China, and Japan. Throughout his career, the only reason he had ever done anything for the benefit of these corporations was because he was following orders as a dedicated soldier acting in line with his oath to the Constitution. By the end of his career, he realized that in following those orders, he had spent his entire life serving as high-class muscle for wealthy American corporations. In his book, War Is a Racket, he documented how he had spent decades enforcing the interests of these companies, whether it was oil, fruit, or sugar, whenever a U.S. corporation had an asset to protect or a rebellion to put down in places like Central America or the Caribbean. He realized he had been nothing more than an enforcer for the very American Oligarchs who were now trying to approach him to overthrow his own government.

When these same interests approached him to lead a coup against the President, they assumed he would serve their agenda because he had always been reliable as a military man. They were wrong; he took his oath to the Constitution seriously. He testified to Congress that these men had approached him at least three times to lead a rebellion of National Guard troops. The plot collapsed because he blew the whistle, but the people behind it, many of the most powerful financiers in the country, were never held accountable.

The Systematic Destruction of the Middle Class

FDR’s support for unions held until his death in 1945, when union membership in the United States reached its peak at 33% of the workforce. This was the bedrock of the middle class that drove the unprecedented economic prosperity of the 1950s and 1960s, a golden era where a single union wage could buy a home, support a family, and secure a pension because workers held genuine leverage against capital. Threatened by FDR’s overwhelming popularity and four consecutive election victories, the American Oligarchs had Congress pass the 22nd Amendment in 1947, ratified in 1951, to impose term limits on future presidents to no more than two terms.

They also had Congress pass the Taft-Hartley Act in 1947, which severely restricted the rights of labor unions to organize and strike, effectively turning the tide against the American worker and beginning the destruction of the middle class. This act introduced "Right to Work" legislation, an Orwellian term for laws designed to break the financial back of unions, essentially creating a "right" to not pay union dues. They spent decades systematically dismantling the unions that FDR empowered.

Once union membership in a particular industry dropped below 25%, the competitive pressure on non-union companies to match those wages vanished, and the competitive race to the bottom began. In 1972, as a country, national union membership dropped below 25%, and over the decades following, it collapsed down to just 7% of the private sector. The data shows the direct result of this collapse: over the 50-year period from 1972 to 2022, workers experienced total wage stagnation, earning only a 17-cent an hour wage increase when adjusted for inflation over those five decades as union density fell from 25% to 7%. This paycheck-to-paycheck wage stagnation against inflation was directly correlated with that decline, and it was clearly calculated by the oligarchs, not an accident. As union power vanished, so did the middle class. We are now left with a two-tier society: the ultra-wealthy and the working poor.

The Mechanism of Stagnation: Old Money vs. New Money

This decline was the calculated design of American Oligarchs. They used deals like NAFTA to export jobs and intentionally hollow out the American industrial base. In the auto industry, technological advancement tells the story of their greed. Fifty years ago, it took roughly 100 man-hours to produce a single vehicle; today, thanks to robotics, that same car requires only about 20 man-hours. Yet, none of those efficiency gains were shared with the labor force. Old Money captured 100% of the surplus value, viewing the American worker as an expense to be eliminated rather than a partner to be valued.

To maintain control, the American Oligarchs didn't just buy political influence; they bought the narrative. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the same families who funded the 1933 Business Plot inherited the world their ancestors built. The Pew family, founders of Sun Oil, were deeply implicated in the anti-New Deal movement and later established The Pew Charitable Trusts, which funded public media like PBS and built major polling apparatuses. By staging biased data collection, they manufactured public consensus. They utilized survey questions with four distinct choices: strongly opposed to unions, opposed to unions, don't know/no opinion, or support unions. By stacking the negative categories, they could manipulate the findings to claim that twice as many people opposed unions as supported them, effectively drowning out the pro-labor majority.

They controlled both sides of the media apparatus, masking their agenda until legacy outlets traditionally viewed as conservative or neutral, such as Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, and the Associated Press, joined the Democrat-aligned media in repeating the "fine people on both sides" quote while completely omitting the very next sentence where President Trump explicitly clarified: "and I'm not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally."

Hard Work Equals The American Dream

President Trump’s second administration is different because it is made up of New Money multimillionaires and billionaires who are American-born and self-made. Like General Butler, they are patriots who love this country because it gave them the opportunity to live the American Dream. Because Congress is gridlocked, the administration is acting through the executive office to return money to the people.

To break the grip of the old system, Trump built a relentless political machine, spearheaded with Stephen Miller, to systematically replace the establishment. That machine placed loyal, patriotic MAGA candidates across the country, giving him an ironclad grip on the House where 210 out of the 220 Republicans are candidates selected, endorsed, and backed directly by him.

A New Era of Redistribution

The Old Money American Oligarchs spent 50 years intentionally keeping wage growth pegged to inflation at a mere 17 cents an hour over half a century. In the very first year, Trump's new money cabinet had the opportunity to deliver real reform. They executed the greatest reverse transfer of wealth in American history by returning a grand total of nearly $90 Billion to the American people. Treasury data confirms that 29 million filers took advantage of the No Tax on Overtime policy for the 2025 tax year, receiving an average return of $3,100 per worker.

To fund this, the administration bypassed the gridlocked Congress and acted through executive authority to claw back funds by completely shutting down USAID, shutting down the Department of Education, reducing the federal workforce through DOGE, and establishing foreign tariffs. They used that exact money to fund this return, and they plan on doing more. For a nurse, this is life-changing: working 36 hours a week qualifies them for benefits, but hospitals routinely allow them to work a fourth 12-hour shift, creating 8 hours of overtime per week. Over a year, this results in roughly 400 hours of overtime. By eliminating the federal tax burden on these hours, the policy puts $3,100 directly back into that nurse's pocket. Going forward, this effectively functions as a raise of $1.50 an hour. This $1.50 raise dwarfs the 17 cents an hour of progress the Old Money system provided over 50 years. They are already planning to implement additional tax cuts for working families going forward using these same ongoing funding mechanisms.

The Strategy of Control: Narrative Hegemony

These leaders are new money, meaning their hometowns are not rich. When they return to where they grew up and meet the people they went to high school with or look in their yearbooks, they see that everyone they grew up with is not doing as well as they are, they see it all throughout their extended family, and they don't think that they should be the only ones to achieve the American Dream. These cabinet members had an extraordinary gift that somehow allowed them to succeed, and because they are patriots that love America and their families, they are using their power to make sure that hard work alone guarantees the American Dream.
