The Irkutsk Plague Institute and Russian Phage Therapy

The recent death of 28-year-old laboratory technician Darya Shipilova at the Irkutsk Research Anti-Plague Institute, and the resulting lockdown of sixty scientists at the Institute alongside the hospital monitoring of two hundred likely family contacts will never be officially explained by the Russians, who are not known for their transparency. If this event was a localized lab leak of an engineered super plague, the Russian Scientists and their family members are certainly being given pneumonic plague bacteriophage therapy.
The Irkutsk Research Anti-Plague Institute was explicitly designated for dual-use biological weapons warfare research under the Soviet system, meaning the likely research was with the endemic Pneumonic Plague, creating one or more Multiply Resistant Pneumonic Plague (MRPP) strains from regional wildlife reservoirs like marmots and ground squirrels. Recent revelations from the DNI show that the US definitely funded gain of function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and that it was only 1 of 120 labs that we paid for gain of function located in 30 countries.
Bacteria can be bred to be totally antibiotic resistant, they can be powder-milled so that they can be aerosolized for deep-lung delivery as a weapon, they can be bred to more quickly invade cells, and they can be bred to have a more robust immune-cloaking shield. Outside of Russia and former Soviet-controlled countries, the only way we can deal with bacterial infections is with antibiotics.
While Western commercial pharmaceutical companies entirely abandoned phage therapy due to the inability to patent viruses that occur in nature, or make money off of conventional treatments, the Soviet state-contained system continued to study phages and to develop targeted phage therapy. As well as being suspected of. Creating a super plague, the Irkutsk Research Anti-Plague Institute would have been the same facility to have harvested native phages from local environmental biofilms, isolating them via plaque assays, and continuously cultivating concentrated anti-plague phages with samples of wild or resistant strains.
A 28-year-old junior laboratory technician would have had zero knowledge of any hidden biological warfare potential or parallel resistant strains being cultivated on-site at the dual-use facility, in fact, earlier this year she co-authored and published a scientific paper specifically detailing how the local, naturally occurring wild strains of the region remain fully treatable with standard antibiotics. Because her own recent research had verified that standard bacteriostatic antibiotics like tetracyclines and doxycycline, or even bactericidal options like ciprofloxacin (brand name Cipro) easily neutralize and kill wild-type plague, she may have had a false sense of security. The Institute probably had a standard protocol if anyone was exposed, and she likely took both doxycycline and Cipro immediately upon exposure, and assumed that she was safe to return home to her personal life. The exposure supposedly happened on September 25th 2026, then 4 days later on the 29th she went to the hospital with pneumonia, and died a couple of days later.
If the dual-use military facility engineered a strain of the plague to be resistant, the bacteriostatic drug did not stop it from multiplying, and the bactericidal drug did nothing to kill it. She remained asymptomatic for four days because one to four days represents the natural incubation window for pneumonic plague, or they may have bred it to hide for longer. The bacteria's enhanced capsule cloaking trait allowed it to multiply silently in the dark without alerting white blood cells. At the end of that 4-day countdown, the bacteria hit critical mass and a sudden, fatal respiratory collapse followed, and she died within days of being admitted to the hospital despite everything they did.
Theoretically the issue has already been resolved, because they are likely giving all 260 people that were exposed directly or indirectly targeted phage therapy grown in the exact super plague they were exposed to, and since it spreads by droplets from person to person, standard hospital protocols will protect the nursing staff. For the 300 Russian oligarchs, if this really is a super plague that kills within a week of exposure and cannot be stopped by any antibiotics, and who have been funding research for decades into bacteriophages, if none of the 260 other people die that is proof enough that they will be protected, because ultimately phage therapy is not only unpatentable, but it is also very expensive, costing over $10,000 in America if you can find anyone to do it, meaning there will never be enough to go around, but as long as there is enough for Putin, the 300 Russian oligarchs and their families, then that is all that matters.
Spiking standard preventative intravenous antibiotic drips with the proprietary phage therapy would allow the cure to remain camouflaged. The patients would assume they are receiving generic hospital care, the immediate incident is contained, the facility is scrubbed, and the public narrative has been seamlessly rebranded as a routine pneumonia of unknown origin. This brief glimpse reveals a chilling structural reality, that while the outside world remains trapped in Capitalism and the pharmaceutical companies that want to make a profit off of selling people prescription drugs, and have no interest in curing anyone of anything, the Russians not only have a superplage, but also the only cure, and they are not sharing.
While the United States has shown Russia that our military is the greatest on the planet in 2026, Russia just tilted their hand either on purpose or by accident, and told the world that not only are they willing to drop nuclear bombs on Europe, but they also have a super plague that is aerosolized and kills people within a week of exposure, and that if you don't have phage therapy like they do there is no way to stop it.
